Overweight / obesity
The Chinese-Australian study investigated the efficacy and safety of the Chinese herbal medicine formula RCM-104, which is used in TCM for the treatment of obesity.
The sample of 117 overweight subjects was divided into two groups, each taking either four capsules of RCM-104 (n = 59) or placebo pills (n = 58).
The randomized, double-blind treatment was administered three times a day for twelve weeks. BW, BMI and WC, HC, WHR and BF were measured at the beginning of the study and every four weeks during treatment.
92 subjects were considered in the ITT analysis and the researchers found that weight, BMI and BF were reduced by 1.5 kg, 0.6 kg/m2 and 0.9% in the RCM-104 group, while the same values increased by 0.5 kg, 0.2 kg/m2 and 0.1% in the placebo group.
Adverse side effects were low in both groups. The RCM-104 treatment proved to be well tolerated and effective in the treatment of obesity in the course of this study.
