Yoga Retreat im Chrissie's Hotel in Detail

Your Yoga Journey

Find peace in the pleasant climate of the Western Ghats in South India. Let the green surroundings soothe you and slow down with daily yoga and meditation, whether you're starting or expanding your yoga practice. An optional Indian cooking class introduces you to the secrets of the diverse Indian cuisine. Explore the surrounding forests, spice and tea plantations, experience the culture of Kerala, and indulge in Ayurveda massages.

Your Yoga Hotel

Chrissie's Hotel is surrounded by evergreen nature and is managed by an Egyptian-German couple. Access the four-storey main building with its 16 rooms via a short walk through the garden. Watch the numerous birds, giant squirrels, langurs, and macaques from the balcony of your seminar house and enjoy the views from the rooftop terrace with a small pool. The design of the rooms and spaces by artists from around the world gives the place a unique flair with a unique feel-good character.

Location & Surroundings

The quaint town of Thekkady is located in the southern Indian state of Kerala, right on the border with Tamil Nadu. It is surrounded by the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and is nestled in the mountains of the Western Ghats at an altitude of about 1000 metres, enjoying pleasant temperatures all year round. The area is renowned for its rich flora and fauna as well as the nearby picturesque tea plantations, making it a highlight for any traveller to South India. The town centre and most activities are within walking distance or a short rickshaw ride away.

Dining & Leisure

For breakfast, enjoy a buffet with homemade sourdough and white bread, various jams, coconut chocolate spread, peanut butter, muesli, mozzarella, and a daily changing vegetarian Indian breakfast dish (e.g., Appam, Dosa, Idiappam, or Idly with lentil, chickpea, vegetable, or egg curry, accompanied by coconut chutney). Fresh local fruits, coffee, tea, and juices are also prepared on request. For dinner, a daily changing Indian dish is served, consisting of a base such as rice, Parotta, or Chapatti, a curry based on lentils or various vegetables, accompanied by Raitha and Pickle.

Yoga

The 88 square metre yoga room is available for group yoga sessions or individual practice. Located on the third (top) floor of the hotel, it offers a pleasantly airy environment with a fantastic view of the greenery.

Yoga Leadership

Your yoga instructor Kerstin Einhorn has lived in Thekkady with her Indian husband for 20 years. Trained in the Sivananda Yoga tradition, she is also an Ayurveda therapist and naturopath. She guides groups and individual travellers in South India and offers yoga classes for beginners and advanced students, both as private sessions and weekly intensive courses. With her calm demeanor and a fine blend of humour and depth, she tailors her approach to each participant, helping you to integrate breath and movement and find your balance between physical sensation and mental presence.

Free Time

The diverse wildlife and plant life of the surrounding forests invite you to explore on half or full-day guided hikes. You can also visit spice plantations, a tea factory, and enjoy performances of Kerala's martial and dance arts, as well as Ayurvedic massages. A day trip to the temple city of Madurai (about 140 km) in the state of Tamil Nadu is also possible. An Indian cooking class can be booked on site if desired.
