Colonial villa with an experienced Ayurveda doctor from a traditional family, beautiful garden, and pool. Only 6 rooms ensure personalised care and a family-like atmosphere during your Yoga or Ayurveda retreat.
At Villa Velmarie Yoga & Ayurveda House, a villa from the Dutch colonial era, you will experience 'magnificence in simplicity' with Ayurveda and Yoga in a quiet, family-like setting with about 4,000 sqm of garden. A fisherman's beach (not suitable for swimming) is about a 2-minute walk away, and the centre of Beruwela is approximately 2 km away. Swimming beaches are about 15 minutes away.
The small town of Maggona is located about a 60-minute drive south of the capital Colombo, near the coastal town of Beruwela. The southwest of Sri Lanka is enticing with rainforests, stunning beaches, and many cultural attractions.
The Villa Velmarie Yoga & Ayurveda House enchants its guests with a selection of Ayurvedic, predominantly vegetarian menus tailored for all dosha types (tridosha). Enjoy traditional dishes made with fresh, local produce, as well as freshly squeezed juices and delicious fruit.
An experienced Ayurveda doctor with his own Ayurveda clinic awaits you, hailing from a traditional family and a member of the Sinhalese Ayurveda Society. In 3 treatment rooms, services including Ayurvedic massages (e.g., facial, head, body, foot), Shirodhara forehead oil pouring, herbal inhalation, and baths are offered. The Ayurveda doctor is always on call, and daily yoga and meditation sessions are held by the pool.
The accommodation features an outdoor pool (approx. 12 x 3 m) with sun loungers. Various excursion options are available, including the nearby bathing beach, Richmond Castle in Kalutara, the Fort in Beruwela, Galle, the Kande Viharaya Temple in Aluthgama, and a turtle conservation station in Kosgoda. Water sports such as surfing are also available nearby, sometimes for a fee.
The retreat features 6 rooms (approx. 30 sqm) in the villa, furnished with antique furniture and decor. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful, with views of the lush garden, pool area, or courtyard. Single rooms are double rooms for single use.

We simply felt at home right from the start. Our room had a safe, fan and air conditioning, was very clean, spacious, with a terrace right by the beautiful pool with exotic garden. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and always had a smile on their faces. They tried to make everything possible, there is no such thing as impossible. The Ayurvedic food was very varied and a treat for the palate. Morning yoga was a good way to start the day, to align yourself physically and internally. The chef Milton, always beaming, gives an insight into his Ayurvedic cooking skills once a week. Chandira is the soul of the house and is always available for any requests. The treatments, 2 x a day, approx. 60 min. each, were individual and were always tailored to the current condition for 3 days by the experienced Ayurveda doctor Janaka Samaraweera. My therapist Lakna did an excellent job with every treatment. The beach is just a few minutes' walk away for walks. And not to forget the owner, Mr. Charith, a really wonderful, warm person. We would love to come back, thank you for everything.
