Join us for a tour of the spa center of Karlovy Vary, where we'll showcase the finest architecture. The Karlovy Vary Theatre was built at the end of the 19th century according to designs by the Viennese architects Helmer and Felner. The paintings were entrusted to the Viennese painters Gustav and Emil Klimt, as well as Franz Matsch, leaving behind one of the greatest artistic treasures, a hand-painted curtain. Today, the Municipal Theatre in Karlovy Vary offers a wide variety of plays, operettas, and ballets. The theatre's grand hall serves as the concert hall for the local symphony orchestra. The alternative scene of the Municipal Theatre - "Theatre Husovka" - offers chamber and traditional plays as well as club music. The Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, with its long-standing tradition, organizes regular concerts as well as summer colonnade concerts.
Karlovy Vary is home to five art galleries. The Karlovy Vary Museum and the Museum of the Golden Key regularly host lectures on the history of Karlovy Vary, and their exhibitions are open to visitors all year round.
Karlovy Vary traditionally hosts the International Film Festival. Every year, film stars from around the world gather here (Franco Nero, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sharon Stone, Michael York, Jacqueline Bisset, Robert de Niro, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas).
In addition to culture, Karlovy Vary also offers sporting activities. The city is particularly proud of its two golf and tennis courses. There are also opportunities for bowling, billiards, ricochet, squash, and mini-golf. Horse lovers will find plenty to enjoy as well.
Karlovy Vary is also famous for its unique traditional products. The tradition of glass production in Karlovy Vary was founded by Ludwig Moser. For more than 150 years, the Moser Glassworks has been producing luxurious drinking and decorative glass in both classic and modern designs. Karlovy Vary is not only a city of glass but also a city of porcelain. The first porcelain factory in the Karlovy Vary region was established in 1792 in Horní Slavkov. For the spa industry, Karlovy Vary utilizes twelve hot mineral springs. The "thirteenth spring" was created in 1807 by the pharmacist Joseph Becher, who initially sold it as stomach drops, later as a stomach liqueur. Becherovka – Becher's Bitter is produced according to a secret recipe from a mixture of about 20 herbs and spices, which come from exotic parts of the world as well as from the surroundings of Karlovy Vary.
