Aathma Ayurveda Health Resort in Detail

Your Ayurveda Resort

The quaint and intimate Aathma Ayurveda Health Resort captivates with its serene coastal location and authentic Ayurveda Panchakarma. Just a 2-minute walk from the stunning sandy beach, the bungalow resort is nestled in a well-maintained garden spanning approximately 7,000 square metres. The architecture of each building is stylish and structured, while the surrounding vegetation exudes tranquillity and carefreeness. In about 2-3 minutes on foot, or by tuk-tuk upon request, you can reach the hotel's private beach property. This offers you the opportunity to relax by the sea between your Ayurveda treatments and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean waves. On the beach property, sun loungers, towels, and toilets are available. Moreover, the Aathma team is happy to provide you with tea, water, or fresh coconut.

Location & Surroundings

In the southwest of Sri Lanka, about 9 miles south of Bentota, lies the small town of Balapitiya, which is especially known for its palm-fringed, fine sandy beach. This is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka.

Dining & Leisure

The open restaurant serves delicious Ayurvedic Tridosha dishes. Meals are served as a set menu. To help guests adapt their diet to their individual type in everyday life, recommendations on suitable ingredients, spices, and preparation methods are gladly provided.

Ayurveda Center

In the welcoming Ayurveda Center, equipped with 10 treatment rooms, you'll be expertly cared for by a qualified team comprising 3 Ayurvedic doctors (one available 24 hours in the hotel) and several experienced therapists. Following a comprehensive initial diagnosis, enjoy a minimum of four Ayurvedic treatments daily - relaxing, purifying, and soothing. The number of treatments may vary depending on your health condition, and additional treatments may be prescribed by the Ayurvedic doctor if needed. Some treatments can also be enjoyed outdoors, such as head and foot massages or the final floral bath. According to Ayurvedic teachings, yoga and meditation enhance the success of your therapy. Yoga and meditation sessions are held on the covered rooftop terrace. Beauty treatments can be booked on site.

Free Time

In the beautifully landscaped garden, the outdoor pool, sun loungers, and parasols ensure a soothing slowdown. Cosmetic and beauty treatments can be booked on site. The palm-fringed, fine sandy beach is perfect for walks, for example, at sunset, and depending on the weather, for swimming. Sun loungers, towels, and toilets are always available on the nearby private beach property. Upon request, the team there can also provide drinks (water, tea, or coconut). An ideal place to relax by the sea during your free time from treatments. Bicycle rental and laundry service available on request.

1. airport pick-up/return: everything went very smoothly and a member of staff picked me up and brought me back. There was also a bottle of water at the pick-up 2. Room: surprisingly comfortable and large. Nice bathroom with walk-in shower. Mosquito net. Air conditioning. 3. food: Ayuvedic, tailored to the dosha type. 4. medical care: 3 doctors, whereby 2 are always on site when the 3rd is free. The therapeutic treatments/massages: amazing. You are assigned a masseuse for the entire time. For men, of course, masseurs. There are fresh, colorful wraps every day. 5. entertainment/excursions: great offer. Yoga 5 times a week in the evening. 2 evening performances each: meditative music and a folklore evening with a fire show. For 2 weeks I had 2 excursions included (1 excursion to Galle, 1 boat trip with a demonstration of cinnamon making and shopping opportunities, bus visit to a temple. Of course we also went to a juice bar for fresh fruit juices and a foot and fish cleaning for a fee. Everyone wants to earn something. I had a safari in a national park and we saw peacocks, elephants, crocodiles and small animals. It was great. Unfortunately, the excursion cost €90 and according to my research, the provider gets a smaller part of this amount (the rest goes to the hotel). However, pick-up was at 4 am and it was a 2-hour drive there and back. The rest on a safari vehicle (very adventurous!) in the national park, whereby the driving skills of the rancher are to be praised. It was very worthwhile for me... I really wanted to see elephants and felt like I was on an African safari. 6. general facilities: very nice, well-maintained pool. Gardeners are very busy every day. You definitely have to be prepared for mosquitoes (travel time 16-30 October - still monsoon season, but dying down). What I didn't like: In the pictures, each terrace/balcony had a sun lounger. I only got mine on the 4th day (day of departure) after I first asked the room boy (has nothing to say), the manager (we will see) and finally the 1st doctor (said that this was not intended, LOL) and I insisted...then got one. You don't just want to chill by the pool (by the way, you can't do that when tropical rain comes down again. I also had 2 completely rainy days) you just want to relax after treatments. At the beginning there was only 1 uncomfortable chair available to me. The manager also had some complaints about guests not taking a ride and excursions through the hotel.... for insurance reasons; with the hotel's own car having a large crack on the windshield and one of the rear seat belts not closing. This was recorded but not repaired. Bear in mind that the traffic there can be quite chaotic. The beach can be reached in 2 minutes. The waves break quite violently on the beach and you should avoid swimming properly (undercurrent). But there is one place that is quite good for going in. However, there were many free-roaming dogs here (but this is normal) and you are occasionally approached by tuk-tuk drivers or other "service providers". CONCLUSION: I had a great time and would go there again. It is very relaxing and although I only had minor physical problems, these have disappeared. But you have to bear in mind that you can't expect a miracle cure in 2, 3 or 4 weeks. However, the other guests also had good results. I got to know nice people and really enjoyed my stay.

Small and friendly RESORT - the 3 doctors come to the table at all 3 meals and you can ask questions.

All the staff were exceptionally friendly and always smiling. Room service made new animals every day with the towels and in the evening room boy came and made up the bed and put down the mosquito net. Food changed daily - sometimes fish or chicken. I would go again because it felt so familiar. Only MANKO: Nearby beach = on the way and on the beach and in the sea = lots of PLASTIC WASTE. Also, there are occasionally one or more dogs playing by the sea doing nothing - looking for food. IMPORTANT: DURING MY 2 WEEKS I ALMOST HAD 3 SUNNY / CLOUDY DAYS. The remaining days = clouds and rain and sometimes felt like 3 days of rain. If Ayurveda is the main focus, I would book again in SUMMER UNTIL October, as from November the stay becomes SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE.

A complete success in terms of health

I arrived there with excruciating shoulder pain. My mood was pretty low due to the lack of sleep as a result of the pain. After a week of acupuncture, massages, warm towels and a paste on my shoulder, the pain became bearable and I was able to enjoy my stay. My gastritis improved and my blood pressure was back to normal.
