Hiking holidays in Europe

Germany has one of the most diverse landscapes in all of Europe and is therefore perfect for a hiking holidays. In the north, the moor and heath landscapes of the Lüneburg Heath beckon, with the hiking area best explored via the 223 km long Heidschnuckenweg. In southeastern Germany, in turn, the 180-km-long Hochröhner in the Röhn UNESCO Biosphere Reserve links a few of the most beautiful hiking routes in Hesse, Bavaria and Thuringia, including the distance hiking trails to the Bavarian Forest and Thuringian Forest. For those who prefer to head into the mountains for their hike, circular trails such as the one around Germany's deepest gorge, the Breitachklamm, are recommended. For those who prefer a beautiful view of alpine lake and valley landscapes, we can recommend the panoramic hiking trails at Tegernsee and Alpsee.

Austria, together with Germany and Switzerland, forms the unbeaten excursion trio for mountain hikes. Bathing in a real mountain lake becomes child's play here, especially with a hike through Voralberg. The hiking region has several mountain lakes, including the Formarinsee and Lünersee. Also in Tyrol, many hiking trails lead past mountain lakes such as the Seebensee, Drachensee or Blindsee. For a beautiful alpine pasture hike with sunrise high above the peaks, a hiking route in Upper Austria, for example from the Wurzelalm to the Gleinkeersee or from the Rauriser Urwald via Filzmoos to the Bachalm, is again a good choice.

A real insider tip for hiking in Europe are Eastern European countries like Slovenia. Especially if you are planning a short day trip, you will find extremely atmospheric dream trails in untouched nature in Slovenia. A very popular destination in this regard are the Slovenian waterfalls, of which the Savica waterfall in the Triglav National Park is considered an absolute hiking highlight. Also located in the national park is the Vintgar gorge with the associated waterfall Sum. Other recommended hiking routes are the Beautiful Valley Head Route around the Mostnica Waterfall (challenging) and the Soca Round over the Soca Suspension Bridge to the Sunikov Waterfall (medium-difficulty).

Whoever likes to pass one or the other vineyard on his hike would like, should definitely once in the red wine country of Spain. In wine-growing regions such as Navarra, Roja or the highland plains of the Spanish Meseta, there are not only growing areas for top varieties such as Merlot and Tempranillo, but also glorious Mediterranean landscape scenery. In addition to the Spanish mainland, island walks on the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands are also a good tip. In the Canary Islands, for example, natural landscapes such as Caldera de Taburiente on the island of eternal spring La Palma and the Roque de Agando volcanic rock wedge on La Gomera. On the Balearic Islands, on the other hand, routes such as to the old olive trees of Port de Soller on Mallorca or a coastal hike at the Far des Moscarter on Ibiza are very nice.
